Current Status and Information

Fresh from the survey conducted by the LGU Catbalogan City team sent by Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan last November 13, 2014, the Municipality of Lawaan was first from Eastern Samar to be the recipient of the medical-relief of Catbalogan City.
Conducted on November 17, 2013, the said relief operation was a three (3) simultaneous activity on different locations. A medical mission was spearheaded by the Office of the City Health led by City Health Officer, Dr. Gerarda Tizon, Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Anna Sophia Lim and a team of nurses and staff. Consultation started around 02:00 PM at their dilapidated Municipal Hall and finished at around 06:00 PM catering 1,119 residents of Marabut, Samar. Most treatments were basically on cough, fever and colds while others were given medicine for maintenance like hypertension, diabetes, and others. Tetanus toxoid were also administered to the same number of patients. Medicines were provided by Metrowaste Inc. and from the supplies of the City Health Office.
A simultaneous feeding and distribution of relief goods were conducted at across the Municipal Hall and across their church respectively. The following number of relief goods were distributed at different barangays:
Brgy 01 – 71 packs
Brgy 02 – 40 packs
Brgy 03 – 32 packs
Brgy 04 – 51 packs
Brgy 05 – 62 packs
Brgy 06 – 115 packs
Brgy 07 – 84 packs
Brgy 09 – 84 packs
Brgy Taguite – 271 packs and 542 bottles of 1 Liter Mineral Water
TOTAL – 885 packs
Mineral waters were provided by donors Mr. and Ms. Pete Arteche of Cebu City. Rice porridge or “arroz caldo” served as hot meals during the mass feeding, and was personally cooked by City Councilor Coefredo Tekwa Uy. Navy reservist of the 831st Marine Company Reserve also helped in the distribution of relief goods.
City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan was very much willing to be personally present during the said medical-relief operation at Lawaan, Eastern Samar but due to equally important concerns at the City Hall, she had to beg off and instead sent City Vice Mayor Art Gabon and Councilor Coefredo “Tekwa” Uy to led the team.
With 11 recorded casualties in the municipality, Lawaan was somehow fortunate enough compared to other municipalities in Eastern Samar relative to the damages brought by Super Typhoon Yolanda.
Municipal Mayor Candida Cabornes was present along with Vice Mayor Banjo Tolentino who warmly welcomed the LGU Team and extended their sincere appreciation for the support and assistance extended.

Unfortunately, there are more places severely affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda. We will update this list as soon as we get more information. If you wish to share any information, email us at help@bangonph.com
